About the work

The book contains more than 70 selected color photographs of Strahil Dobrev, presented on themes: landscapes, churches and monasteries, icons, folk costumes and architecture of Bulgaria, shot in the seventies and eighties of the 20th century. The year was 2001. A jubilee exhibition was held in Brussels on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of Bulgaria's accession to the Council of Europe. The event was organized by several enthusiasts, and the exhibition presented 40 magnificent photos of Bulgarian monasteries captured by Strahil Dobrev. Captivated by the beauty of natural paintings, the wealth of historical heritage and the poetry of the captured moment, dozens of ambassadors, public figures and connoisseurs asked, "Where is the photographer? ... Can we buy his book? ... Is there an album on the exhibition? ". In return, the shameful organizers offered a glass of Bulgarian wine. The exhibition was so successful that it toured many other European institutions: from the Senate in Paris to the Parliament in Strasbourg and everywhere welcomed with enthusiasm ... Only today, with this first monograph, we pay tribute to one of the most talented pioneers of Bulgarian color photography.
