The model is taken from the Album “Bulgarian Folk Embroideries” compiled by Rositsa Chukanova, published by the “Bulgarian artist” publishing house in Sofia in 1957 and its photo-type copy, made by Georgi V. Markov in Plovdiv in 2017.

The dominant colour in the embroidery from Kyustendil region is the red one in combination with green, yellow, blue and black. They used to make the embroidery with slanting stitches only. At the beginning of the 20 century the embroideries “gave way” to hand-made laces, which were used to decorate the sleeves of the traditional costumes for the region.
